were able to grow
fine hair on the back
of a mouse which
was grafted with human baby foreskin. The results show miniaturized human follicles that look like mold. Although this is a leap for human hair cloning, the first experiments of this sort were successfully done in the 70's on mice whiskers. Although this is one step closer to making cloned hair, the work is fraught with problems that need to be addressed. Most disturbing, in some of the mice experiments, skin tumors were frequently seen. This does not diminish the excitement of this news, and we congratulate Dr. Christiano and
Dr Jahoda for their important lab work.

Dr. Takashi Tsuji, in Tokyo in 2012 has published results of stem cell research in human regenerative hair. He showed that a bioengineered hair follicle germ, which was reconstituted from embryonic skin-derived cells from two distinct layers when transplanted into a mouse grew hair. This seed was able to develop a hair follicle that looked like human hair. The bioengineered hair follicle connected
to the mouse skin and plugged-in or wired into blood and nerve supplies of the mouse.
